Foundation Subjects

Foundation subjects are taught following the Cornerstones Curriculum.

We use the music scheme Charanga -   All Y5 children learn how to play a musical instrument (currently steel pans). The year group and instruments may change be subject to change. Singing is an integral part of each day and although music skills are sometimes taught discretely we also make it a part of themes such as The Pitmen Painters when we focus on traditional Northumbrian songs and dancing. 

Physical Education - all children have 1 or 1 lessons per week and there are a number of other opportunities across the day.  We plan a wide range of physical activities to develop skills, confidence and fitness drawing on the specialists within the local Sports Partnership though our sports funding to improve staff skill.  All children are taken swimming at some point in KS2.  We take part in a range of competitions and have had some significant success this year.   

The Modern Foreign Language we teach is French, although we set out to raise awareness of other languages too.  Children have a weekly French lesson from Y3 to Y6, although we use song and story across our age-range.

Religious Education is taught in line with the Locally Agreed Syllabus in Northumberland.
